I agree though, add-on apps and games are simply spammy on FB, and I block nearly all of them as well. Google+ might do well to rethink how apps and games can "access" a user's profile information and/or spam them with status updates/ads. At a minimum, if a "friend" in one of my circles is playing an add-on game, I should not get sprayed with messages about their latest loot, trophies, points, etc unless I specifically "opt-in" to see that, or am also playing that game.

Also, just want to say I'm really enjoying your blog, Jon! I'm on G+, so if you're looking to add some "acquaintances" feel free. I'm a software engineer here in St. Louis and I've had you on my reader feed for some time. Really enjoy your posts.David Atchleynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25327006.post-28417105874272802452011-07-01T13:55:47.143-05:002011-07-01T13:55:47.143-05:00Just a couple of points: Games and "Questions...Just a couple of points: Games and "Questions" are coming. There's already code in the templates for it and Google just hired a bunch of people to develop games. That said, I'm optimistic they won't be as obtrusive as they are on FB.

Twitter compatibility is already there, but it's tied into their Buzz system. You can set up Buzz so it imports your Twitter account. So if you go to my profile and click on the Buzz tab you'll not only see everything I've shared in Google Reader, but any Tweets I've made as well. It just doesn't pollute the stream.

Third party apps, you can bet those will be coming at some point. They already have a Google App store for Chrome and Android, it only makes sense that'll be extended to Google+.

You can hide statuses. There's a little grey drop down arrow on the right next to a stream entry that allows you to "Mute" that post. Don't know if it's exactly the same as FB's implementation, but it's there.

Event's will probably be easily done once they integrate Google Calendar into Google+, which, again, I'd be surprised if they didn't do that. I expect all of the Google services will tie in somehow including Google Docs which will make a lot of them a lot more useful.

I think Google's going to be very careful in how they implement this stuff to try and avoid the pitfalls that could develop. But what it comes down to for me is that I quite simply trust Google more than I trust Facebook.Les Jenkinshttp://stupidevilbastard.com/noreply@blogger.com
