Looks like someone finally caught on

Studies have shown that the effect prayer has, is non-existant at best, and damaging at worst. Yet regardless of the numbers, people still cling to the notion that prayer actually has some sort of a positive effect.

But every great once in awhile, someone catches on. And when they do, they're not too happy. Which is why, the four children of songwriter Darrel "Wayne" Perry are suing an aunt who convinced him to cease treatment and rely on prayer, resulting in his death.

Shame. The world could use a talented songwriter as opposed to yet another hack preying on the gullibility of her followers.

  1. While the aunt was lying about the effectivness of prayer, I wonder how well this lawsuit will go. Wouldn't the argument that it was his choice (and his religious freedom) to stop treatment.

  2. The weird/evil thing is that the preacher succeded in having the patient stop the treatment and "replace" it with prayers.
Why not simply pray for the treatment to have max effect.

This seems to be nothing more than a turf war where casualties don't matter.

Jon, I can no longer identify myself when placing a comment, which I could in the past. I tried to insert a link, but that resulted in the post to be ignored.
You seem to have no email address available, so please del this post when read.....

  4. I'm not sure what's up with the commenting. I've just used a template for everything so I'll presume it's a glitch with Blogger. If it doesn't clear up in a few days, let me know. My Email address is VoijaRisa@gmail.com.

  5. There's the old joke with the guy standing on his roof during a flood. A motorboat goes by and they offer to rescue him. He waves them off and yells 'God will save me!". Same with another boat, and a helicopter. Finally the guy drowns. In heaven, the guy asks God why He didn't save him. God replies, "Hey, I sent you two boats and a helecopter!".

The Bible is explicit about having you make use of opportunities that come your way. In fact, so much so, that by the time of Christ, the big thing was that at the same time, you must also guard against greed. So, not only is reliance on prayer for a cure stupid science, but it is also stupid religion. As both science and religion are attempts at discovering truth, ignoring both is stupid squared.

Divining the future with pig entrails is also an attempt at discovering the truth, but I'm fairly certain that few people would give it much credence.

Religion as a means of discovering truth does not work. Ignoring it is no more stupid than ignoring pig entrails.
