Many times on this blog I've reported on how things that should in no way be dangerous, when combined with religious inanity, can suddenly become a life threatening situation for people involved. As Hitchens put it, "Religion poisons everything"; From exorcisms for every day behavior and illnesses, to drinking sewage, to staring at the sun.
And yet again, we have another story of a parent murdering their child because of religion. As sad as this is, I have long since lost surprise at the amazing things people will do when their minds have been corrupted by religion to the point that rational thinking is no longer possible.
In this case, a mother stabbed her daughter. Eleven times.
The mother originally claimed this was in "self defense" when her daughter came at her with a knife. But it's quite apparent that even after disarming the six year old the mother then proceeded to attack her, going far beyond what can be considered self defense.
The real cause? The daughter was sleepwalking. After conferring with a superstitious relative, the mother decided the child was possessed by a demon.
Did you know that over 20,000 people a year die due to pharamceuticals?
ReplyDeleteThousands of these, many involving muders, involve anti depressant medications (according to the AMA).
Far more die from these cause that for "religious" reasons.
I am curious how many of those 20,000 (source btw?) are the result of people not using their medication as directed or stopped using their medication despite severe psychological problems.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, what's the point of your argument? More people die from bee stings than shark attacks each year. It doesn't mean shark related fatalities are any less real.
Check the AMA stats on deaths due to Medical Malpractice, Hospital errors, and Pharmaceutical errors (defined as being due to the drug itself or the Pharmacist...not patient use.)
ReplyDeleteIts well OVER 100,000 a year,
More than car wrecks and murders combined.
Its a national disgrace.
How about putting that into perspective and finding out what percentage of the overall this is. Gross numbers are worthless given that medical procedures are far more common.
ReplyDeleteCome back when you can do basic statistics.
Stalin was an atheist.
ReplyDeleteWho never justified any of his actions on the non-existence of a God. Hence the inherent difference.
Yeah he did.
ReplyDeleteHe frequently referred to the Communist Manifesto.
A thoroughly atheistic document.
Read it.
Know it.
I've read the communist manifesto with an without the commentary by engles and he argued that religion was perfectly fine as long as it wasn't in an extremest stand on it.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm like a month late to this conversation, but I'm flipping through the archives and can't help but bring up (maybe you've talked about this already) the "honor killings" that go on in some faiths when a daughter has "defiled" her family with a crime as small as speaking with a male outside the family.
