War on Christmas 2009

It looks like the 2009 War on Christmas has started and stores are doing their best to offend oversensitive Jesus freaks.

If you want to find out which stores are the ones that don't bend over backwards to kiss the asses of these whiny gits, check out Stand For Christmas. They're rating chains by Jesus content.
First thing I notice is that they are only playing non-Christian Christmas songs (Jingle Bells, etc.). Unacceptable. I ask a clerk, "What is the reason for the season?"
Uh... the solstice!

Look at Bass Pro Shops rating! That is funny. The outdoor retailers like them and L.L. Bean obviously cater to the church crowds, while the more liberal outfits like Banana Republic cater to the atheists and agnostics. It goes to show, it's all about money!

It may seem strange for an Atheist, but I still occasionally will read/research about religion to understand it better, in depth, objectively.
Just checked out "A New History of Early Christianity" by Charles Freeman (270.1F855) from my library.
Interestingly., Capter 3, 'Jesus before the Gospels': "Jesus himself never wrote any account of his (Jewish) ministry or his teachings. Most of his followers were illiterate and there is no known document written by an eyewitness to Jesus's life....".
Anyhow, the manger and Inn descriptions are ficitional; ie, Christian mythology. However, we'll hear on Talk Radio about the "War" on Christmas, again.

Check out how San Francisco celebrates the holidays. Annually a gay group creates The World's Tree of Hope in City Hall. It is cover with thousands of orgami cranes each inscribed with wishes send in from around the world. Obama, Clinton, Jane Goodall, Pelosi have all sent in wishes as well as everyday folks from around the world. You can send a wish in online for free at: http://www.rainbowfund.org/tree The tree is stunning - they are adding wishes through out December. They will print your wish, fold it into a crane and place it on the tree. It is billed as a project promoting, peace, love and humanitarianism for all people on earth. That is really "Christmas" spirit!
